ABOUT US:
Paul was recently diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS), a childhood cancer of the soft tissue. Paul's cancer is located in the bile of his liver. Paul is the 3 year old son of Barrington Police Officer Garrett Oberkircher.
Paul's cancer, thankfully, appears to be treatable with a favorable outlook for success. As we all know, fighting cancer takes a toll on the patient and their family. This page is an attempt to help keep all fans of the Oberkircher family updated as to how Paul is progressing. Also, this page will help in notifying fans of upcoming events to support the Oberkircher family. Most notably an upcoming fundraiser to be at McGonigal's Irish Pub on August 3rd. More details will be released as they become available.
The organizers of this event ask that you reach out to your corporate contacts in an attempt to secure raffle & auction prizes for this event. Send a message to us on Facebook, or Contact Us, for information on how to get those prizes to us!
On behalf of the Oberkircher family, and his brothers and sisters at the Barrington Police and Fire Departments...Thank you.

Update on Paul:
We are currently in the midst of chemotherapy to treat Paul’s RMS. The plan is to continue chemotherapy, with radiation treatments in the middle. The full course of chemotherapy should span 45 weeks if everything goes according to plan. The most important thing we are dealing with is getting Paul good nutritious and caloric food! The hardest thing for him is that the chemotherapy causes pain in his stomach, jaw, feet, and hands, making eating and playing a bit difficult in the days directly following treatment. He has lost some weight, so prayers for weight maintenance are important. Thankfully, Paul should be able to receive his weekly chemotherapy at home, only having to go down to Lurie Children’s Hospital every three weeks for a more intense round of chemo. Overall, Paul and our entire family are in good spirits and taking things one day at a time! We are very grateful for all the help, support and prayers that are coming our way! We are truly blessed!

Update on Paul:
First, we want to thank everyone for their continued prayers and support. The response to our situation has been incredible and we are eternally grateful for everything that has been done and continues to be done on behalf of our family.
Paul has been handling chemotherapy treatments very well! He did have to undergo one blood transfusion, but it worked very well to improve his blood counts and overall energy. Paul continues to eat and gain weight, getting closer to his weight before this whole process every week.
The next step in our journey is the radiation treatment. This should start around the end of August and is a 5 1/2 week treatment, 5 days a week. We're not looking forward to this, as it means we'll practically be living out of Lurie Children's Hospital for about a month and a half. We are excited to make the best of the situation, though, and are beginning to plan excursions around the city to occupy our free time. We're hoping to be able to visit the museums, zoo and aquarium to fill the time outside of radiation. Also, new imaging will be done around the start of radiation. We're praying that the results of this imaging will be encouraging!
Overall, our family and Paul continue to remain in good spirits. Once again thank you to everyone for your prayers and support. We truly don't know how we'd be getting through this without the outpouring of support that we've experienced! We'll keep you updated on the process as it continues and we hope to see many of you at McGonigal's on August 3rd so we can thank you in person!
